What I learned in December

This December I learned:

When you go to the grocery store with a sinus headache you may think you are buying a head of lettuce but in fact come home with a head of cabbage.  Coleslaw anyone?

I just might love bells - silver bells, jingling bells and church bells joyfully welcoming all to listen, to sing, to worship.

I never tire of seeing one of our neighborhood volunteer fire fighters dress as Santa and drive up our road waving a Merry Christmas greeting to all and handing bags of goodies to the kids.

(our daughters two lovlies: Stella and Joey)

Taking two little bitty, mini dachshunds for a walk by two full sized adults can be quite an adventure!  After a lap and a half around the local ponds, Score: weiners 2, big people 0.  (They might be naughty but they are are SO cute!)

Cheering on our beloved Seahawks from the comfort of our living room is almost as fun as being there - and every bit as stressful.  Home to one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL, they probably don't need me hooting and hollaring from the couch (or my 2 cents worth of wisdom I dare spout to the television screen) but I feel I must...   : )

No matter how many Christmas seasons I am blessed with here on this Earth, I will always need the One who came as a babe, wraped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger, a humble King and Savior to us all.

  1. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this post, Mindy :) And what you wrote at the end about our precious Savior sure hit home - thank you for the sweet reminder. It's always a pleasure to hear from you on my blog - you are always such a faithful visitor and it's a blessing to me. Have a great weekend, friend! Hugs to you!

  2. LOL, I love your sense of humour, Mindy. What did you end up doing with the cabbage? That is one vegetable that I avoid! I think it's because my mom overcooked it so badly when I was a kid, lol.
Looks like your Seahawks have lots to cheer about this season - good luck to you! My Steelers are down and out :(
As always your post makes me smile and also causes me to reflect. Yesterday I attended the funeral of my Aunt, who was a nun. Being in the convent surrounded by so many people of deep faith was a moving experience. These are people who, because of their work, have seen and heard more than most but because of their faith, they live in true peace with their God. A beautiful place.

    1. I ended up making a last minute coleslaw with red cabbage (which I love in salads) and carrots. I used a bottled dressing though and should have known better - not that great...

So sorry to hear of the loss of your aunt. It sounds like it was a lovely service.

  5. Interesting little glimpse into your December, Mindy! I spent the month with a sinus infection too-hopefully it is over now. They are no fun! I am thinking about trying some essential oils to prevent or treat the next one. Do you have any experience with them?

    1. So sorry you have not been feeling well. I have not tried essential oils but do have some lavender by the bedside. The salt water nasal spray helps me quite a bit as does regular use of allergy pills. I have used the Netti pot but have to say I am not too proficient at it! I would love to know if your use of oils helps you.
