Giving Thanks Friday

This week I am thankful for:

My Mom and my Dad and they way they continue to help care for my grandparents.  It's such a trying time with my grandparents in assisted living and each day brings new "adventures".  So thankful for all they do, the love they show.

My Grandma and how she just rolls with the punches despite how quickly life is changing at her age, how she hugs my neck when I leave and reminds me to "keep in touch".  My Grandpa, whose mind drifts from the past, to the present, to time of war in a moment, whose legs barely work to get him into a wheelchair but who reaches out his arms, as if to catch me, when I trip over my sandal.

Time spent with my daughter and a chance to laugh at ourselves over an unexpected, but much needed, weeknight dinner out.  (Also thankful that only the very tip of my trendy maxi skirt dipped into the toilet at said dinner out...ahem)

A wedding we will celebrate this weekend for two young adults who have both successfully faced a number of challenges in life and are on their way to a wonderful new life together.  I pray blessing on them both as they begin a new life together.

The first cherry tomato of the season, warm from the vine and oh, so wonderful!  The flowers on the bean plants that mean fresh green beans are on the way.  The carrots that taste slightly of dirt because they are just that fresh.

The local church bell ringing several times each morning this week signaling the start of Vacation Bible School.  I just love the chime of the bell and the echos of the children singing songs of hope as loud as their breath will allow.

A scoop of ice cream in a freshly made cone.  A delight of summer indeed!

What are you thankful for?

May your weekend be filled with many reasons to give thanks!

(Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good: his love endures forever.  Psalm 118:1)

  1. So thankful to be on road headed fir the beach. We just finished VBS and it was such a great exhausting week. Just had my first cherry tomatoes too! Nothing better! Hug those grandparents--miss mine terribly! I love that image of your grandpa trying to catch you when you tripped on your sandal. Made me tear up. You are blessed and loved!

  2. Hi Mindy! I love your thankful Fridays. Such a great thing to do...be thankful. When I am sitting out on my porch I can hear the local church bells toll the hour. On Sundays, the carillon plays hymns. I just love it.

Summer means summer fruits to me. Cantaloupe, watermelon, oh! and green beans too. We are having fresh green beans flash boiled with garlic and olive oil Yum!!

Your parents sound like wonderful people. What an inspiration in dedicating their time to care for their parents.

I'll come over and we can have an ice cream together :)

    Happy Thankful Friday!
